Meet Georgina

I was born and raised in Winnipeg and have spent most of my life living and working in River Heights Fort Gary ward. I attended Grosvenor Elementary School and Churchill High School before earning degrees in Theatre and Fibre Arts from Concordia University. I later pursued graduate studies in at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, but home—and family—called me back to Winnipeg.
For more than 40 years, I have been actively involved in grassroots organizations, neighbourhood initiatives, and civic issues. I believe strong communities are built by people who step forward, work together, and find practical solutions.
For the past 15 years, I have worked alongside the residents of River Heights–Fort Garry, helping navigate City Hall, solving local issues, and advocating for neighbourhood priorities. My work at city hall, along with previous work and volunteer experiences with other levels of government has provided me with valuable skills and knowledge on how to bring people together and deliver results.
Community service has always been at the centre of my work. I served for more than 15 years on the Board of Westminster Housing Society, where I helped lead fundraising and governance efforts during a period of significant growth that expanded affordable housing and launched the Good Street housing project.
Earlier in my career, I spent more than a decade teaching drama through community arts programs, beginning at Prairie Theatre Exchange. I continue to believe that the arts, recreation, parks, and community centres create opportunities for people of all ages to connect and thrive.
Outside of work, I'm a lifelong volunteer with the Winnipeg Folk Festival, where I helped develop the now-famous "Tarp Shuffle."
I believe my purpose is to help build community. Whether it's improving parks, supporting local businesses, creating affordable housing, or cutting through bureaucracy at City Hall, I'm committed to making meaningful, lasting improvements for the neighbourhoods we call home.

My Vision For River Heights - Fort Garry

Reducing Petty Crime And Property Damage

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own backyard. We need proactive, visible, and localized solutions to curb property damage, garage break-ins, and opportunistic crime in our neighborhoods.
As your City Councillor, I pledge to address petty crime and protect our property by:
Hiring a Ward Safety Coordinator: Establishing a dedicated liaison to work directly with residents, community groups, and law enforcement to track and address hyper-local crime trends.
Increasing Community Patrols: Supporting the expansion of visible neighborhood watch groups and footprints to deter property crime.
Improving Neighborhood Lighting: Upgrading streetlights and back lane visibility to eliminate dark spots and improve overall community safety.

Making the City Work and Excellence in Core Services

City Hall needs to get back to the basics. From reliable snow clearing to clean streets and accessible public facilities, we must ensure your tax dollars are translating into dependable, everyday city services.
As your City Councillor, I pledge to improve the "nuts and bolts" of municipal services by:
Enhancing Winter Maintenance: Improving snow clearing timelines and quality on residential streets, active transportation paths, and neighborhood sidewalks.
Protecting Public Libraries: Securing funding to preserve library hours, upgrade facilities, and expand vital community literacy programs.
Streamlining Waste Management: Ensuring reliable, efficient garbage and recycling collection while tackling illegal dumping in back lanes.

Invest in our Community Centres and Green Spaces

Our parks, community centres, and green spaces are the heart of our neighbourhoods—vital places where families connect, kids play, and neighbours gather. I remain committed to protecting and modernizing these spaces so they remain vibrant for generations to come.
As your City Councillor, I pledge to continue advocating for our community centres and green spaces by:
Upgrading Local Parks: Securing funding for modern play structures, accessible seating, and enhanced green spaces across the ward.
Supporting Community Hubs: Partnering with local community centres to expand recreational programming and upgrade aging infrastructure.
Protecting Our Urban Canopy: Investing in aggressive tree replanting and maintenance programs to keep our neighbourhood parks green and healthy.

Smart Development and Community Led Housing

As our city grows, we must ensure development is done thoughtfully, responsibly, and with the community's input. Housing security is the foundation of a strong neighbourhood, and we need a strategy that prioritizes both growth and affordability.
As your City Councillor, I pledge to champion smart development and housing solutions by:
Advocating for Community-Led Growth: Ensuring residents have a strong voice in local development projects to preserve the character of our neighbourhoods.
Partnering for Context-Driven Housing: Collaborating closely with resident associations, and community groups to ensure new affordable and attainable housing projects are designed to organically blend into and enhance our existing community spaces.
